A Lot Like Catching Fish With Your Hands

So, the last couple of weeks have been as over-the-top busy as I can remember…

In between job hunting (an activity I absolutely LOATH by the way), I messed my back up; have started rehab for it; have been trying to get some design work done for a new company venture that my wonderful wife Kari and I are going to embark on in the next few months (it'll take that long to get the initial design work finished); have been trying to write at least a little each day… Of course there is the everyday stuff: taking care of the house, yard, dog… Spending time with the family…

Sometimes 24 hours in a day doesn't seem long enough…

So, I finally heard back from Flying Pen Press on the status of my second novel A Darkness Reflected…

They lost it…

It seems they are going through some kind of reorganization (who isn't?) and in the shuffle… Off it shuffled…

Sigh…

So, after a series of emails, I re-sent it to them last Friday… Now to wait the 7-8 weeks they project… We'll see what happens…

One of the things I intended with this blog, is to showcase some of the stuff that catches my eye… Something I think I've yet to pull off as well as I could… So that will be a "new" goal to set for myself… I can't guarantee that I'll get it right, right off the bat, though I'll try…

Here are some things that have caught my attention in the last two weeks:

Mexican scholar finds Mayans' buried highway through hell

"TZIBICHEN CENOTE, Mexico — Legend says the afterlife for ancient Mayas was a terrifying obstacle course in which the dead had to traverse rivers of blood, and chambers full of sharp knives, bats and jaguars.
Now a Mexican archeologist using long-forgotten testimony from the Spanish Inquisition says a series of caves he has explored may be the place where the Maya actually tried to depict this highway through hell…"

We Blew It

by P.J. O'Rourke

"Let us bend over and kiss our ass goodbye. Our 28-year conservative opportunity to fix the moral and practical boundaries of government is gone–gone with the bear market and the Bear Stearns and the bear that's headed off to do you-know-what in the woods on our philosophy…"

If this was only true… It would be a type of Republican I could get behind…

Whatever happened to Jeffersonian Republicanism by the way? Does anyone know?

Ciao for now!

Interruptus

The past three weeks have been stress hell. As most know the (stock) market has been in volatile disarray. So too the commodities market(s) — where I make (or try to) my money. None of our investments are paying off right now, which means that we've had to tighten our belts here at Casa de Kechter… Which isn't always a bad thing. "Luckily," we had the foresight to put some money aside for just this kind of thing… Though that isn't unlimited… Hopefully this is a (very) short term thing… But just in case (as it is better to have plans within plans, and back-ups for all of them) both Kari and I have begun to look into getting jobs… Probably temporary, though even that is uncertain at this time… Only time will tell…

The REALLY sucky thing, besides dealing with the stress itself, is that its put me off almost all my projects — as the time I would be working on them, I am now job hunting, writing resumes, putting out trading fires, et cetera…

Sigh… Oh well, all I can do is get on with things… Set a goal, then let myself go into the stochastic flow… Hope for the best; plan for the worst…

"Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."

Wassup Boys

Nice to see the boys back… Even if their straights are not what they used to be…
